 8th Gathering of the Iranian Drummers Association Held

On March 9, 2015, the 8th gathering of the Iranian Drummers Association was held at Serna Hall, attended by more than 120 drummers and drum enthusiasts from all over Iran.  As always, Master Keyvanshokouh opened the meeting with a few words: the very existence of such an association creates "motivation" among young, talented drummers, and "mutual respect" can pave the way to progress.

This was followed by a short report on next year’s plans: the conditions for the association’s third Play-Along Festival in April–May 2015; hosting a German drum master for a session on polyrhythm and double pedal in May–June 2015; the opening of Iran’s first specialized drum school with Iranian instructors next spring; and the launch of an English section of the association’s website.

A report by the specialist magazine DRUMHEADS on the association and its work to raise the standard of music in Iran also drew the audience’s attention.  Talks on the importance of "volunteer work" and "teamwork" were warmly received as well.

The gathering also included two educational sessions: first, a practical session on "technique" and the "metronome" by Master Alireza Tabatabaei; second, a theoretical discussion on "localizing drumming" presented by Master Arash Moghaddam.

The eighth gathering set a record for attendance, particularly from the far corners of Iran, and the presence of Master Nadimi, one of Iran’s veteran percussionists, gave the event a special touch.

The Iranian Drummers Association wishes each of its members a wonderful year and hopes to pursue its core mission, "creating motivation", through a varied program of educational events in the coming year.
